Gymnast Fred Richard, Stoughton High Class of 2022 (and a former O'Donnell Middle School and Dawe Elementary School student), was on Good Morning America on ABC! Fred, who will be competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, won a bronze medal in the men's all-around event at the World Gymnastics Championships back in October and also helped the US men’s gymnastics team win a bronze medal in the team competition. GMA Anchor Robin Roberts interviewed Fred, discussing his preparations for the Olympics, his career in gymnastics, and inspiring more Black youth to go into gymnastics. Fred even performed a trick at the end of the segment! Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ_Uc2vWo_U

Stoughton High students have had their artwork on display at the Stoughton Public Library throughout the month of January! This collection of artwork was created by some of the amazingly creative art students at SHS in the advanced art courses and some are members of National Art Honor Society (NAHS). These young artists are exploring new materials and methods in art, experimenting with color mixing, learning design principles, and applying techniques while addressing complex artistic concepts.

Nine Stoughton High students were chosen to represent SHS at Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey's "Team Rival" Peer Leadership conference. The conference, held at Gillette Stadium, brought together students from the local area, identified as leaders in their respective school communities, to kick off friendly competition between rival schools while raising awareness for important issues like distracted driving, impaired driving, and emergency response training. The group from SHS was joined by SPS Director of Health Services Danielle Gallan, Stephanie Patton from OASIS, SPS School Resource Officer Bonda, and Stoughton's own Detective David Fanning, who was a guest speaker at the conference.

Congratulations to Andrew Causey (1st place), Noah Schwenzfeier (2nd place), and Adam Raja (3rd place), all sophomores at Stoughton High School, for winning the VFW's Voice of Democracy audio essay contest at the local level this school year! High school students across the country enter this contest. This year, students were asked to record a 3-5 minute audio essay answering "What are the greatest attributes of our Democracy?" At SHS, students in the Pre-AP US History class submitted entries. Stoughton American Legion Commander Michael Pazyra, representing the Stoughton VFW on behalf of Commander James Kelly, presented certificates and prizes to the local winners at SHS last week. The three winners from SHS are pictured here with Commander Pazyra, SHS Principal Julie Miller, SHS History Department Director Jaime Regan, and SHS Pre-AP US History teacher Melanie Ingrao.

The Patriot Ledger recognized Stoughton High junior Devon Rossi Benson, a lineman on the SHS football team, as one of 40 "unsung heroes" on high school football teams across the South Shore this season. Devon, wearing his 76 jersey, is pictured here. From the Patriot Ledger: [Devon] has made an impact for the Black Knights on both sides of the ball. Coach Christopher Evans said he consistently faces double-teams, and even an occasional triple-team, in the trenches. "He goes hard, never makes an excuse and shows up ready to work," Evans said. "We've had to make some adjustments up front on the offensive line and he does whatever is asked of him."
