As part of the units of study phonics program, kindergarten students at the Wilkins School made “name” necklaces.

4th grade students at the Wilkins School were working on a project in art class featuring radial symmetry, where there is symmetry/balance in several directions arranged around a central point.
To celebrate Constitution Day, which commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, the Wilkins School created its own Wilkins Constitution. The Wilkins Constitution had three categories - "Be Safe", "Be Respectful", and "Be Responsible". Wilkins classes discussed the rules and expectations they wanted to see included and wrote them out and placed the strips of paper under the appropriate category. Students then signed the Constitution, which will be on display in one of the hallways at the Wilkins during the month of September. National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed each year in the United States from September 15 to October 15, celebrating the culture, history, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. The Wilkins School is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by sharing these beautiful picture books (pictured here) with students. Teachers are reading these aloud to students during their interactive reading time.

Students at the Wilkins School loved greeting Detective Faria from the Stoughton Police Department on "High Five Friday"! High Five Friday was a special one day event sponsored by the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association where police officers visited schools across the state on April 29 to give high fives to students as they entered school. Amazing the things students can make when given basic items like paper towel/toilet paper rolls, cups, and pipe cleaners! Here are some examples of robots students recently designed and created in the makerspace in the learning commons at the Wilkins School!

Third grade students in Christine Bohn's class at the Wilkins School are seen here observing two tadpoles that are living in their classroom. Each third grade classroom at the Wilkins has tadpoles that students will be able to watch develop into leopard frogs! Students are even keeping frog journals to document their observations.
First graders in Mrs. Getchell’s class at the Wilkins School have been adding tools to their reading tool kits! Now they are able to read “hard” words! Way to go!
Here are some photos of Wilkins School third graders learning about frogs as part of a science enrichment program with Drs. Bless and Pearl of Science & Engineering Education Development (SEED). Third grade classes in each of our elementary schools will get the chance to participate in this program. The SEED program visited the Dawe in February, visited the Wilkins and Hansen March 21-25, and will be at the Gibbons and South March 28-April 1. Great opportunity for our students!
Wilkins School students had a whale of a time on March 22 as “The Whalemobile” came for a visit. The Whalemobile is a life-sized inflatable whale named Nile, modeled after a real humpback whale that can be seen off the coast of Massachusetts. The inflatable whale was set up in the Wilkins School gymnasium, with classes visiting it throughout the day. Students could even go inside the inflatable structure to get a look at what a whale’s interior would look like! Students enjoyed getting up close to Nile, going inside, and learning about whales during their time with the Whalemobile.
Two members of the ELPAC (English Learner Parent Advisory Council), Mrs. Previatti and Mrs. De Souza, recently came as guest readers to read classic folktales in Portuguese for March Book Madness at the Wilkins School. Our native Portuguese speakers loved hearing these stories in their home language and interpreting for their friends. Our native English speakers also appreciated hearing stories in another language, understanding how it must feel to learn a second language. This was a great literacy, multicultural and multilingual experience for all!
Kindergarten students at the Wilkins School wrapped up their "Super Readers" Reader's Workshop unit by making superhero masks! These super readers now have many superpowers to help them read!
Congratulations to Wilkins School student Nakiah Penny for coming in second place in the elementary division of the Stoughton Talent Showcase! Nakiah is pictured here with the other elementary division winners, Nika Musatov, Raquelle Kramer and Maris Stewart (first place/Hansen School), and Thomas Carpinella (third place/Gibbons School). The Stoughton Talent Showcase was held March 11 at the SHS auditorium. It was an entertaining night showing off the amazing talents of our own Stoughton Public Schools students with 21 acts split between three divisions - elementary school, middle school, and high school. The judges did not have an easy task deciding on the winners!
Members of the Stoughton Fire Department have been visiting our elementary schools for fire safety assemblies. SPS elementary students are taking part in March Book Madness, an online bracket-style tournament that matches books in one-on-one "games" with students selecting the winning book to advance to the next round until a "champion" has been determined. During this past Friday's Western themed Spirit Day at the Wilkins School, kindergarten students gathered as a grade level in Mrs. Faria's classroom for a read aloud of two of the books competing in March Book Madness. Ms. Fahey read "Above the Rim", Ms. Flewelling read "The Cot in the Living Room", and then students voted for their favorite story. Take a look at some pictures here...
