Dear SPS Families,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year!
We begin school for grades 1-12 on Wednesday, September 3rd and grades PreK and Kindergarten on Monday, September 8th.
This has been a busy summer for the entire district. Background work has started on the new elementary school project, we completed upgrades to HVAC systems at the Dawe and Gibbons, the Hansen School playground project is underway, and yes, the Gibbons School playground has had its update finally completed. We also received a $2.7 million grant for HVAC updates at the Wilkins School.
We have hired 40+ personnel in all departments replacing retirees, resignations, and leaves of absence. I look forward to welcoming back all of our teachers, paraprofessionals, and school-based staff on Tuesday, September 2.
Transportation continues to be an area we are working on. After numerous weeks of providing opportunities for families to register and/or pay the fee for bus transportation, we are no longer accepting applications or late payments. Families will have to provide other means of transportation. For those students receiving bus transportation, they will need to show their bus postcard to the bus driver during the first week of school in order to get on the bus.
The 2025-2026 school calendar also has a new look and added information, including back to school nights and parent/guardian-teacher conferences. Please take a look at the calendar to plan your attendance at various meetings/events.
I look forward to the upcoming school year as I work with Ms. Juliette Miller, Superintendent-Elect, on our transition plan (soon to be published). We will also commence a search for the position of Principal of Stoughton High School for a start date of July 2026. This will be an open process with a working committee of faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and students.
Lastly, this will be my final academic year after 34 years on the job, 17 as a school superintendent. My commitment to students, colleagues, and SPS families will be to continue to work daily for our school community and to do so with pride, passion, and a true belief in SPS.
Once a Knight, Always a Knight!
