After working with our transportation company, we are now able to accommodate the 45 secondary students who previously could not be assigned to a bus due to capacity limitations. This means that all families that submitted a bus application for their student and made a payment by the deadline have now received a seat on a bus for the 2026-2027 school year.
The families of these 45 students will receive an email confirming their status from our transportation office and they will also receive an orange bus postcard in the mail with information about their bus route.
Due to the high cost of transportation and budgetary constraints, simply adding another bus was not a viable option to rectify this issue. To make every effort to accommodate these students and provide them with the bus transportation they signed up for, our transportation company carefully reviewed the bus routes and made the necessary adjustments to make this possible. As part of this process, one bus stop had to be adjusted (the stop will be the same but the bus number will be different). These families will also receive notification from our transportation office and a new bus postcard.
“We are very pleased that we have been able to find a solution that ensures these students will have transportation. At the same time, this situation has highlighted the need for us to take a closer look at our transportation processes,” Superintendent of Schools Ms. Juliette Miller said.
“In partnership with our transportation department and transportation provider, we will be reviewing the application process, allocation of transportation resources, and student placement process to determine where improvements can be made. As part of this review, we will also seek feedback from families. Our goal is to develop a transportation process that is more effective, accurate, and efficient and that allows us to better anticipate and respond to transportation needs.”
We thank our families for their patience, understanding, and flexibility as we have worked through this matter. We also want to recognize the efforts of our transportation staff and our transportation company in helping us reach a positive resolution for our students and families.
